Colorado Marks Its 150th Birthday with the Mile High 150 Expo — A Once-in-a-Century Celebration at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport

Warbird flyovers, Denver's own My Blue Sky, Nashville headliner Scotty Hasting, and a 300-drone light show headline Colorado's official sesquicentennial celebration on August 1, 2026

BROOMFIELD, CO — On August 1, 1876, Colorado became the 38th state. One hundred and fifty years later, the state is marking that milestone in a way that has never been done before. The Mile High 150 Expo, produced by the Commemorative Air Force Mile High Wing and Mile High Air Boss, will transform Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (KBJC) in Broomfield into the centerpiece of Colorado's official sesquicentennial Colorado Day celebration — honoring 150 years of innovation, aviation, military service, pioneers, and the people who shaped Colorado's future.

The main public celebration takes place on Saturday, August 1, 2026 — Colorado's 150th birthday — at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield.

Gates open at the RMMA Terminal Ramp at 4:00 PM. The evening opens with warbird flyovers and aerial displays directed by the Mile High Air Boss from 5:30 to 6:45 PM. At 6:45 PM, Denver's own My Blue Sky — Colorado's premier Allman Brothers tribute band, playing Southern rock and blues with the personal blessing of Gregg Allman himself — takes the stage for a 45-minute opening set. At 8:00 PM, Nashville rising star Scotty Hasting headlines for 90 minutes. A decorated combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Scotty was shot ten times while serving in Afghanistan in 2011 and found music as his path forward. He has opened for Jelly Roll, Lee Brice, Tanya Tucker, and Dave Grohl, made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2024, performed at the D-Day 80th Anniversary in Normandy, France, and appeared on the National Memorial Day Concert on PBS in 2025. The evening closes at 9:30 PM with a 300-drone choreographed light show — produced by Innovation Center DPT of St. Vrain Valley Schools — telling Colorado's 150-year story above the Front Range.

"Colorado's 150th birthday deserves a celebration worthy of the state's spirit. The Mile High 150 Expo is our tribute to the pioneers, pilots, and everyday Coloradans who have lifted this state higher for 150 years. There has never been an event like this in Colorado — and there won't be another one for 50 years." — Mile High 150 Expo Organizing Team

The VIP Chalet offers a premium experience inside the RMMA terminal building — private balcony with unobstructed flight line and stage views, a hosted bar with a Colorado-inspired catered menu, lounge seating, and a meet-the-pilots session. Stage and sound production is provided by Mountain West Production Group.

The Mile High 150 Expo is proudly supported by the Commemorative Air Force Mile High Wing, Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, Signature Aviation, Mile High Air Boss, and RealClean Aircraft Detailing. Sponsorship opportunities remain available — organizations interested in aligning with Colorado's premier sesquicentennial event may contact partners@milehigh150expo.com.
